Drs. Sweeney, Laverty and Kiefer have had years of experience and are experts in the field of transfusion medicine. Dr. Sweeney is board certified in transfusion medicine and currently serves as Director of transfusion medicine at Roger Williams Medical Center. He is the only member in Rhode Island to be appointed to the American Association of Blood Banks Journal “transfusion” editorial board. Dr. Sweeney has written extensively on the topic of blood banking and is nationally recognized as the leader in transfusion medicine. Drs. Laverty and Kiefer both serve as Co-Directors of the highly successful Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine program for Southcoast Hospitals Group. The program which provides Southcoast with approximately 1,200 pints of blood monthly is unique in that it is 80% self-supporting, all of the blood used in the hospital comes form local volunteers and is used to save the lives of local residents.
